Initial Submission: Your Free Report

Send us an extract from your manuscript and we'll return a one-page report on whether it's ready for publication. If it is, we invoice the package fee and production begins. If it needs more work, the report tells you where to focus and suggests the route that suits you.

The Publishing Made Easy Package: £1,950

One fee covers everything needed to take a ready manuscript to a published book.

The package suits primarily text-based books such as novels, memoirs and non-fiction with a small number of images. Books with complex layouts are quoted per project.

Writing Coaching: £300 per month

Coaching puts an experienced editor alongside you while you write your book or revise the completed manuscript. Each month we work through the big questions about your manuscript together, and each week you get feedback on the pages you've just rewritten, so problems are caught early instead of after another full draft. Every change stays yours, and you learn to spot and fix the issues yourself, which carries into every book you write after this one.

Line Editing

A line edit is a close read of your whole manuscript, sentence by sentence. It goes well beyond the typos and spelling we pick up during formatting, looking at clarity, rhythm, word choice, repetition, awkward phrasing and consistency.

You receive a written report with each point located by chapter and quoted text, so you can find it in your own file and make the changes yourself. Your words stay your own.

Line editing takes place before production begins. Once you've worked through the report, send us your revised manuscript and we'll format from that final version. Content changes made after formatting has started are charged separately.

Images and Illustrations

  • Up to 10 imagesIncluded
    Photographs and diagrams for biographies, memoirs and non-fiction, including preparation: background removal, colour correction and sharpening.
  • Additional images£10 each
    The same preparation for every image beyond the included ten.
  • IllustrationsFrom £200
    Black and white line illustrations for chapter books and older readers. A full-page illustration starts from £200. Smaller illustrations are quoted per project.

You must hold the rights to every image you supply. Colour interiors significantly increase printing costs and the retail price of your book, so we'll discuss this with you before you commit.

We don't illustrate picture books. Authors of picture books need to supply print-ready artwork. We may be able to put you in touch with a suitable artist if you don't already have one to work for this level of work.

Supplying Your Own Cover Artwork

You're welcome to supply your own cover art or commission an artist. We still handle the cover layout: dimensions, spine, barcode and text placement for your specific book. Supplied artwork must meet this specification:

  • At least 300dpi at the final printed size
  • CMYK colour profile
  • A layered file, with any text kept on separate live text layers rather than flattened into the image
  • Commercial licences for every font, image and element used

The package fee is the same whether we design your cover or you supply the artwork. Assessing supplied art, feeding back on issues and preparing it for print often takes as much of our time as designing a cover ourselves, and often more if the supplied design is of lower quality.

Corrections After Launch

However carefully you proofread your book, the odd typo turns up after launch. Your package includes one round of corrections, and we correct the files and upload new versions to the printer and eBook retailer. Remember that the proofs you are sent both in the initial preparation stage or following a round of post-launch corrections are for you to check that you're happy with both the layouts and the correctness of the content.

Send corrections as one complete list. A round costs the same whether it contains one fix or fifty.
