María Burgos
María has been teaching mathematics for more than 20 years at different universities and across various degree programs. She knew she wanted to become a mathematics teacher when, during her final year of secondary school, her maths teacher asked her to explain the topic of integration to her classmates.
She has met teachers and researchers from many parts of the world: Canada, France, the United Kingdom, Germany, Italy, Russia, Peru, Chile, Costa Rica, Colombia, Cuba… All of them shared a desire to discover and reveal the beauty of mathematics. Today, she lectures for teacher education programs with the hope that future educators will be able to pass on that same feeling to their students.
When María is not teaching or researching mathematics, she spends time with her family, with whom she shares her love for mathematics, music, and reading. María has been dancing flamenco since she was a child, something she shares with her daughter Alba. Her son Saúl always knows what music to play to make her smile. She loves the sea—perhaps in another life she was a curious and restless little fish.
